VET
(reproduced from the SACE
Operations Manual - Information
Sheet 31/08)
This information sheet details the requirements for schools in submitting results to SSABSA for
vocational education and training (VET). DATEX Online schools should submit VET results
using DATEX Online.
Paper schools should use the VET results record as detailed below.
For DATEX Online schools, the submission dates for VET results are:
- Friday 27 June;
- Friday 5 December.
For paper schools, the submission dates for VET results are:
- Friday 27 June;
- Friday 28 November.
See the note at the bottom of the page about the submission of outstanding VET results.
The VET results record (Form 34/08) is to be used by paper schools (or DATEX Online schools where
the code for the VET unit of competency is not available) to record the results of a group or class of
students who are undertaking VET units of competency. The VET units of competency may or may
not be embedded in a SACE subject. Space to record the SACE subject code is provided where the
VET units of competency are embedded.
The form is to be submitted to SSABSA to enable any status to be calculated to help students to
complete their SACE. Photocopy the VET results sheet as necessary to record the results of separate
class groups.
Accumulated VET unit of competency hours will count towards SACE unit(s). Fifty nominal hours
of successfully completed VET will represent 1 free choice unit in the SACE. A free choice unit is a
unit that is additional to the studies specified at Stage 1 and Stage 2 (SACE Operations Manual, page 72). Up to 400 hours of
successfully completed stand-alone VET, completed at a PA (pass) level, can gain up to 8 units of status
in the SACE.
VET units of competency that are embedded in SACE subjects cannot be presented again as stand-alone
VET units of competency for status recognition. SACE coordinators may wish to consult the policy
statement Recognition of VET Outcomes Towards the SACE for further details.
SACE coordinators in DATEX Online schools should use DATEX Online to submit VET results to
SSABSA in accordance with the schedule.
The VET entry screen on DATEX Online and the VET results record (Form 34/08) require the inclusion
of certain information. This information is collected to meet the national requirement for the collection
of consistent VET data.
For more information on VET, see Information Sheet 47/08.
Note: Outstanding VET results that are not ready for submission at the end of Semester 2 are to be
submitted on DATEX Online at the beginning of Term 1, 2009. Paper schools should use the
VET results record (Form 34/08).
