Computer-aided Drafting/Manufacturing Aluminium/Brass Chess Set ‘This chess set is made of brass and aluminium and was designed using both IronCAD and Caddsman 4.5. It was produced using the Adept CIM Centre Lathe software and a computer-controlled lathe.’
Metals Engineering, General Gas-fired Barbecue ‘To make this barbecue I had to first design and make the frame and wings. I cast the plate at a foundry and powder-coated the final product.’

Nevertheless, it allowed me to look at friends and important people in my life.’
Photography Untitled ‘These prints were my submission for the final skills task. I used colour film and during development had them burnt onto a CD-ROM. I digitally manipulated the images using Adobe Photoshop, adding background and text and adjusting the colour levels. The repetition of words is not seen as a colour block and so does not take the focus away from the image of the food.’

Metals Engineering, General Mark-1 Barbecue Sam converted the front end of a Ford Escort car into a barbecue which also included a sound system. FOSTER Larissa Creative Photography Postcards from Port Lincoln ‘This assignment explores the natural beauty of Eyre Peninsula. The images that I captured could be considered for postcards. I used a digital camera and printed the images on an Epson 740 Colour Printer.’

Metals Engineering, General Barbecue ‘I made my barbecue to suit my needs and likings. I wanted to make as many of the components as I could. The only things that I couldn’t make were the burners, wheels, gas hoses, gas bottles and other special parts. It doesn’t just look good, but it conforms to Australian safety standards.’ Photo 1: Overall view of barbecue. Furniture Construction Outdoor Table ‘The table was constructed from recycled timber, red gum edging, kapur slats, and a jarrah base. It was finished with four coats of Danish oil to enhance and preserve the timber. Salvage yards provided cost-effective timber.’ Photo 1: End view showing the frame construction. I never dreamed that this design would ever be useful; at times I even wondered how it would all fit together. But a thorough design and a lot of patience resulted in a creation I am proud of.’

Furniture Construction Side Cabinet ‘This cabinet was specifically designed to replace another piece of furniture in my home. The forty-degree angle of the glass doors caused endless problems and mistakes, and constant stress and frustration. So I was surprisingly pleased that I actually completed it and that it turned out so well.’ Photo 1: Front view of the cabinet. Textiles Child’s Clothing ‘This exercise was to design a child’s garment for a special occasion. The design brief set out certain restrictions, including the use of a commercial pattern and three prescribed garment processes. I considered the parent’s and the child’s needs, and thoroughly investigated types of fabrics and styles.’

Construction Technology Contemporary Queen-size Bed ‘This bed was constructed to house a standard queen-size mattress and to have the aesthetic value of an original style. Furniture Construction Leadlight Dresser ‘This is a solid pine dresser constructed of timber, with leadlight glass at the top and solid brass knobs. My task was to design and produce a quality item of furniture to suit my needs, within the course requirements. I wanted to produce a high quality cabinet and therefore used traditional dovetail joints in the drawers, and traditional fittings such as solid brass butt hinges for the framed panelled doors. Furniture Construction Wine Rack ‘This is a heart-shaped piece made from solid jarrah and pine. It holds sixteen bottles and pulls apart to be “flat-packed” for easy storage and transportation. I researched and evaluated different styles of racks, mainly on the Internet, and studied their construction at furniture stores. I used concept sketches to find a suitable style for my project and worked out my construction plan. Furniture Construction Aquarium Stand ‘This is a creative piece made from MDF. I used door and drawer components to create smaller ‘aquariums’ with fish, statues, and stones, which are viewed through the Perspex front. Blue paint sponged onto a white background and cut-out wave shapes along the bottom create the total sea atmosphere. My Semester 2 folder contains all the work and research needed for this project. I researched designs and size regulations on the Internet and at an aquarium shop. I used paint shops to find the right colour and finish style. Creative Photography Dylan ‘This photograph is part of a series of five exploring the topic “people”. It was captured in a relaxed atmosphere in which the child enjoyed being photographed. The intensity of the colors adds to the feeling of fun.’ RIDDING Megan Creative Photography Coastal Beauty in Our Own Backyard ‘There is some beautiful scenery where I live. I wanted local people to look at the area differently after viewing these prints. I found that the use of black and white brought out the beauty and detail of the images without the distraction of colour.’ ROWE Michael Metals Engineering, General Automotive Strut Tower Brace ‘The strut brace is used on a car to improve handling and front-end response. It braces the front strut towers so as to minimise distortion and flex in the suspension components. The engineering processes that were used in the manufacture incorporated design, fitting and turning, welding, bending, and laser profiling.’

Photography Photograph — Colour/Black & White ‘The Year 12 photography components covered camera technique, available and studio lighting, darkroom, and creative technique. As I am thoroughly involved in visual art, I found the creative aspect of photography very appealing and so focused on this in my first photography study.’
Computer-aided Design and Drafting Technical Skills Task ‘I reproduced these CADD drawings to scale using Rhino CAD. TAYLOR Callan Computer-aided Design and Drafting Illuminate the Way ‘The task was to design an ergonomic lighting and navigational device using Rhinoceros 3D modelling. I used the design process (investigate, devise, produce, and evaluate) to generate a final concept and created a folio. My design features a 3D model of a cap with a light and battery, and a wrist-operated GPS. It is displayed on an advertising poster.’
Computer-aided Design and Drafting Holden Monaro Marketing Car ‘I scanned the Monaro image and edited it using Adobe Photoshop. I then printed the outline and hand-rendered the various logos and designs onto the car. I displayed the many concepts in a folio and presented the two final designs as creatively as possible.’
TAYLOR Callan Computer-aided Design and Drafting Playground — ‘Play ARENA’ ‘Using the design process (investigate, devise, produce, and evaluate), I created a diverse, creative and exciting playground. I used Rhino CAD to construct and render the final concept. The result is a folio presenting a playground full of adventure.’ TRICKER Laura Energy Northern Suburbs Punk ‘We used digital multi-track recording techniques to design a studio mix to be mastered to CD. We then designed and created a CD cover and label. I got my friend’s band “The Jerks” to play for me and I was away. I love music and enjoyed this task.’
Technical Graphics Asthma Foundation Sports Pack ‘How easily puffers work their way to the bottom of a bag, with no hope of being found when needed the most! Designed for the physically active student, this sports package holds up to four asthma medications.
