About the
2003 Technology Show

The SSABSA Technology Show 2003,
showcasing the work of last year’s Stage 2 Technology students,
was held at the Centre Gallery, Education Centre, 31 Flinders Street,
Adelaide, from 1–17 April.
59 students from 31 schools accepted the invitation
to exhibit work. Members of the Technology moderation panel issued
these invitations when visiting schools to conduct moderation of
the skills component of the curriculum, and at central moderation
of the designing, knowledge and understanding, and issues components.
Work selected was considered to be of a high standard against the
criteria in the curriculum document. Moderators also looked for work
that was unusual and/or innovative.
Work on display reflected the wide range of contexts
available to students, including photography, computing applications,
furniture construction, construction technology, digital systems,
computer-aided drafting / manufacturing, metals engineering, graphics,
welding, energy technology, and textiles. Final products as well
as the documentation of the designing process used were included,
as well as a range of technological issues and knowledge and understanding
tasks.
Many students and teachers used the show as a resource.
The show had over 500 visitors, including teachers and students from
33 schools.
This retrospective contains pictures of many of
the items in the show, and includes both the descriptions of work
supplied by students, and, in many cases, additional comments describing
special features of particular items. These additional comments were
written by Technology SAC member, Bill Broughton.
