special provisions

Students and parents who believe the Special Provisions Policy might apply to their situation should contact the school SACE Coordinator. The Coordinator has the information and experience to understand special needs in the context of each student's subject pattern of studies.

SACE Board policy allows eligible students to demonstrate their knowledge and capability in different ways. This Special Provisions Policy covers students who, for example, are disadvantaged by some form of disability which makes the required assessment difficult.

The policy does not provide additional marks or points to students, but offers alternative strategies assisting students to demonstrate what they have learnt.

The same academic and skill requirements and standards apply to all students whether or not they have a disability. The objective of assessment support is to accommodate the student's functional differences caused by the disability.

The thrust of the policy is an understanding that the SACE Board assesses performance against the stated learning outcomes of each Curriculum Statement.

The SACE Board's approach is to view each student's situation as unique, and acknowledge that special arrangements suitable for one person may not necessarily apply to another.
