Art Show 2008 selected work
The SSABSA Art Show is an
educational exhibition for students and teachers. The works
on display are chosen from practical and theory work submitted
for final moderation in Year 12 Visual Arts Studies, Art,
Craft and Design.
The educational role of the Art Show
is to show examples of:
- the variety of
approaches being used in the visual arts;
- practical work,
showing developmental processes and individual expressive
statements;
- the diversity
of media and techniques being used by students;
- the level of
skills achieved in practical and theory components
of visual arts subjects.
Looking at these examples, students and
teachers can see the ways in which former students have
interpreted the curriculum.
The success of the show depends on the
moderators, who identify works for exhibition when they
visit schools throughout South Australia during final moderation.
The work selected should:
- represent all
subject areas: Year 12 Visual Arts Studies, Art, Craft
and Design;
- represent units
of work (theoretical and practical) that teachers can
use as exemplars to reinforce the curriculum requirements;
- display excellence
in the visual arts;
- display a sensitivity
to the use of media;
- demonstrate a
high degree of skills;
- display the successful
application of problem-solving skills;
- show innovative
approaches to theory and research;
- be exciting,
challenging, and successful;
- demonstrate a
sound developmental process;
- be of high quality,
but not necessarily of high production cost;
- raise awareness
of social justice issues.
Every year, students agree to lend their
artwork for display in SSABSA's offices for the following
year. Some pieces are also displayed in the offices of
the Minister for Education, Children's Services and Training.
In the past the Department for Education, Training and
Employment has purchased a number of works for its collection,
and several students have sold work privately.
The poster
for the SSABSA Art Show is selected from artwork submitted
by students. Aspects of this artwork are also used in the
design of the catalogue, invitations, and identification
tickets.
